Like them.. more titles than I can think of right now * Lock Stock & two loaded Barrels * La Femme Nikita * Metropolis -- One I saw recently was a Japanese animation that really struck me Wings of Honneamise
Beautiful, all hand drawn (no CGI) great story Dubbed into english (done well too ) Not an animation for Kids ... Roger Ebert gave it a thumbs up . ..

Wow. "The Lives of Others" from Germany beats "Pan's Labyrinth" from Mexico. "Pan's Labyrinth" still takes home Best Makeup, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography.

"Pan's Labyrinth" will probably win for foreign language feature, but I have to say, the movie wasn't what I had expected. It's actually a little disturbing.

One of my all-time favorite movies is The Passenger (Professione: reporter) with Jack Nicholson. It's from 1975. The DVD has a long commentary from Jack on the making of the movie and what it was like working with the amazing Antonioni, more than 20 years after he made this wonderful movie. Definitely worthwhile!

I just watched "The Cave of the Yellow Dog" about the nomadic ways of a family in Mongolia. It was good.

I forgot to come back and post a list, but the last one I saw was Sympathy For Lady Vengeance. Great film. And everyone should see Oldboy before Hollywood ruins it with their remake.
I still plan on posting list eventually.

Foreign films seem to view things from a different perspective than Hollywood.
The last (and only) foreign film I saw was "Downfall", which was about Hitler's last week in his underground bunker. I am not a Hitler fan, and the dialogue was all in German with English subtitles, but the movie was very well done. Bruno Ganz did an extraordinary job of playing the most convincing Hitler I've ever seen.

Check out "District B13 (Banlieue 13)," a French film w/ English subtitles. Excellent.

I love foreign films. Hollywood rarely made a quality movie these days. My recommendation today is 'Dinner game.' I have just purchased one online for $8. Great fun. Don't miss it.

Right now, I have "Night Watch" from netflix at home which I will watch on Saturday. It is in Russian. There is also an English dub.
This is the first of the trilogy by Russian writer Sergei Lukyanenko.

Hm - apparently I'm missing out on some films. In Oregonio's list, I've only seen 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 10. I have seen a few of Akira Kurosawa's movies as well - a lot of them, if not all, are very thought-provoking.
I don't mind reading subtitles (most of the time) because I enjoy reading in general. But yes, I do understand that not always are the subtitles true to the foreign language. So that sometimes can be frustrating - especially when you can tell they're skimping on the subtitles.
I must say High Tension started out great, but the apparent need to just spray blood everywhere really got to me. I don't know - I use to be able to stomach horror movies but nowadays some are just a little to "real" for me. I enjoy a good psychological thriller, too.

I have seen all but La Cage aux Folles on Oregonio's top 10 list. I rent many from netflix. I have "Ju Dou" at home right now. If you want to rent a good slasher foreign film, then watch "High Tension". I have seen many foreign movies. I have seen many of Akira Kurosawa's movies.
I enjoy foreign movies. Sometimes if I am tired though, I am glad when they dub it in English, but usually I watch and read the subtitles.

Yes, they are technically foreign-language films, not foreign films. Subtitles are always better than dubbed. Alot of times though, the words aren't translated verbatim, because studios believe people would get lost in the original cultural contexts. If you're bilingual or more, you'd understand what I mean.

Martial arts films, preferably with subtitles. I don't know why, it can be hard to watch the movie and read what they're saying.
